ADVENTURECluster User Meeting 2021 AfterReport
Thursday, July 8th, 2021 - Thursday, September 30th, 2021
The "ADVENTURECluster User Meeting 2021" was held jointly by Allied Engineering Co., Ltd. and SCSK Corporation. This year, in consideration of the impact of COVID-19, and to prioritize the safety of all participants, the meeting was held online.
ADVENTURECluster is a structural analysis software that enables large-scale calculation in realistic time for models exceeding 10 millions~100 millions degrees of freedom. It is being developed by Allied Engineering Co., Ltd. a member of the SCSK Group, based on the results of the ADVENTURE Project (To develop large-scale computational mechanics systems for design, a country program of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) ).
It was the 13th user meeting, 2 kinds of streaming of live streaming(some information is only available for live streaming) and on-demand streaming(be able to watch it as many times as possible during this period.) were delivered.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to the more than 800 people who attended this year’s user meeting.

Keynote Speech: “Thoughts and practices of building physical models using machine learning - Building a surrogate model for fatigue crack growth –”
The exploration of applying machine learning to engineering issues is continuing. In this keynote speech, based on the fundamental features of machine learning, what it can and can not do, as well as its future potential, were explained. In addition, the thoughts on the data itself to enable machine learning to make accurate predictions were presented by using engineering cases such as crack growth prediction as an example. In particular, the case that machine learning & prediction using training data generated by CAE was introduced.

User Interview ① “ The utilization of SCSK analysis outsourcing in Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. for EV promotion “
In Advanced Powertrain Production Technology Development Group of Nissan Motor, ADVENTURECluster was used in the development of the production technology for electrified powertrains.
While there is an urgent need to speed up the development of new technologies in the automotive industry, Nissan Motor was facing a shortage of dedicated CAE personnel.
To overcome these issues, Nissan Motor used contact analysis services (outsourcing services) of SCSK.
By using both actual equipment testing and CAE, Nissan Motor succeeded in achieving significant front-loading and cost reduction in the new electrification field (motor U-shaped bending forming process).
In this session, the background and effect of SCSK engineering analysis service was introduced as well as the future plans were presented in an interview style.

User Interview ②“Utilizing ADVENTURECluster to shift from actual engine durability evaluation to digital verification”
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engine & Turbocharger, Ltd. began to widely use ADVENTURECluster from 16 years ago. As to the industry engine used for power generation and marine, the necessary auxiliary parts are placed around the engine, making the correlation between each part complex, resulting in large-scale analysis models. At the same time, from the perspective of ensuring analysis accuracy, the element division must be finely detailed.
Furthermore, to realize a decarbonized, low-carbon society, the industrial engine industry is required to handle a variety of fuels, and it is becoming essential to make ultra-short-term development based on digital verification that goes beyond the conventional approach.
In this session, the use cases and future goals of ADVENTURECluster in Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engine & Turbocharger were presented in an interview style.

User Case Study Presentation ① “Latest use cases of CAE at Nifco Inc. – Usage of surrogate models in design-”
Nifco Inc. works for industrial fasteners’ manufacture and sale. When using CAE to analyze the fastener’s behavior, it was difficult due to large geometric deformation, slide contact between parts, material nonlinearity, and also involved cost and time issues.
To realize the front-loading of design, the methods that allow CAE to be used at an early stage and in a short period of time were explored.
In this session, the method was introduced that combines the surrogate construction function of pSeven, an optimization software we handle, with the large-scale, high-speed calculations features of ADVENTURECluster.

User Case Study Presentation ② “ Analysis of behavior of automotive seal products when inserted into mold”
One of the automotive parts provided by Toyoda Gosei is a sealing product. When manufacturing sealing products, long extrusion products are inserted into a mold for molding. During this process, molding defects may occur depending on the insertion state into the mold. Therefore, measures were taken through trial and error to resolve this issue.
In this approach, if the state inside the mold can be visualized by CAE, measures can be implemented in a short period of time.
This presentation introduced the behavior of extrusion products inside mold reproduced by ADVENTURECluster.

User Case Study Presentation ③ “ Use case of ADVENTURECluster in engine development ”
MITSUBISHI MOTORS CORPORATION introduced ADVENTURECluster about 10 years ago to apply it to the structural analysis of large-scale models.
In this case, the introduction story of ADVENTURECluster, with calculation speed and accuracy as prerequisites, was explained.
Furthermore, accuracy verification during CAE technology development was included in the structure analysis case that had been introduced.

Presentation by SCSK Co.: “ Fatigue Life Prediction Solution - SCSK‘s Thoughts - 「Introduction of the collaboration between ADVENTURECluster and Z-set」"

Simulations that reproduce complex material properties and fatigue characteristics are useful when designing products exposed to significant temperature changes and loads, but identifying optimal materials and fatigue parameters from experimental values requires a lot of knowledge and effort.
In this session, we introduced a case of fatigue analysis that collaborated Z-set integrating advanced material-related functions with ADVENTURECluster.
Presentation by SCSK Co.: “The importance of this technology will increase with the shift to EV/HEV! 「Analysis case of sub-model of mounted IC chips taking into account of thermal deformation of multi-layer printed circuit boards」”

In this session, we introduced a case of a sub-model analysis of a mounted IC chip that took into account of the thermal deformation of a multi-layer printed circuit board.
In recent years, the market for multi-layer printed circuit boards is predicted to grow significantly due to the increasing adoption of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in automobiles and the growing demand for electrification, which has also led to a rising need for CAE.
In the manufacturing process of circuit boards, problems such as warping of the board due to heat, poor mounting of electronic components, and breakage of solder joints can occur. When using CAE to take preventative measures, extremely large-scale calculation models and the corresponding calculation time and environment are required.
In this session, we introduced an analysis case of solving these issues by ADVENTURECluster, which had been highly evaluated for high-speed calculation of large-scale structural analysis.
