ADVENTURECluster User Meeting 2020 AfterReport

Friday, July 10th, 2020 - Wednesday, September 30th, 2020

SCSK Corporation held a users‘ meeting for “ADVENTURECluster,” structural analysis software developed by Allied Engineering Co., Ltd. that enables large-scale analysis of 10 million to over 100 million degrees of freedom within a practical amount of time. This year, in consideration of the impact of COVID-19, and to prioritize the safety of all participants, the meeting was held online.

In this event, live streaming(some information is only available for live streaming) and on-demand streaming(be able to watch it as many times as possible during this period.) were delivered.

Starting at 10:00 on Friday, July 10th, Allied Engineering, the developer, introduced the latest development information; SCSK introduced related topic information by live streaming, while keynote speeches and user case studies were presented by on-demand streaming.

Keynote Speech① : “Multiphysics・Super simulation of large-scale interaction phenomena in the real world”

Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) is a phenomenon in which fluids and structures interact.

Many researchers have been conducting research and development on FSI analysis methods with the aim of improving accuracy, expanding problem scale, and improving analysis stability, robustness, and efficiency, and have made great progress.

However, there remained a strong demand for research and development aiming at reducing calculation time, dealing with further expanding problem scale and general-purpose analysis of a variety of interaction phenomena, targeting analyses of real-world machines and structures with complex geometries.

The University of Tokyo was conducting research and development into an efficient and robust analysis system that uses the ADVENTURE system as its core technology to perform large-scale interaction analysis of real machines in a diverse parallel computer condition.

In this presentation, the parallel separation iterative solution method and simulation system were introduced, then application cases of coal gasification furnaces and structural reliability assessments of large offshore wind turbines were introduced.

Keynote Speech ②: “ Mazda's goal of ‘Revolutionizing development through MBD (CAE)’ – Being poor is not so bad 2 – ”

As the automotive industry was facing a once-in-a-century period of transformation, Mazda aimed to provide superior products to customers worldwide by advancing development transformation through MBD (CAE).

MBD is already being used widely, from the stage of deciding on the overall concept to the stage of deciding on the detailed shape. This time, using the engine development case to introduce the concept of MBD at the detailed design stage and the activities being carried out in the Hiroshima area that strengthen MBD for further expansion in the future.

User Case Study Presentation ① : “Introduction of ADVENTURECluster’s application to motor rectangular wire molding

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. was working on developing EV motors, aiming to realize intelligent mobility.

Generally, to make an efficient motor, rectangular copper wire is used for the windings to improve the space factor, resulting in producing more efficient motors .

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. was also developing motors that use rectangular copper wire to help extend driving distance.

In this case, applying ADVENTURECluster to the formation of rectangular copper wire during motor production was introduced.

User Case Study Presentation ② “Introduction of ADVENTURECluster‘s application to metal additive manufacturing”

In additive manufacturing using metal 3D printers, support structures are important, which are auxiliary structures that suppress deformation during manufacture.

An improper support structure can result in manufacturing failure or increasing manufacturing time and costs.

Therefore, there is a demand for manufacturing shape design technology to design appropriate support structures.

In this presentation, The manufacturing shape design technology for metal additive manufacturing using a molding process simulation and the benefits of using ADVENTURECluster for molding process simulation were introduced.

User Case Study Presentation ③ “The current status and future of Honda Foundry Co., Ltd.'s efforts to improve the quality of casting products"

One of the issues with casting products is the generation of burrs.

The expected timing for burrs generation is confirmed from the melt flow results of casting analysis, the thermal deformation of the mold at this time is calculated by structural analysis, and the generation of burrs is predicted from the amount of mold opening.

In this presentation, the coupling analysis between the casting analysis software MAGMA and ADVENTURECluster for structure analysis was introduced.

User Case Study Presentation ④ “Building an ADVENTURECluster calculation condition using external clouds“

In recent years, there has been an increasing need for large-scale calculations within the Panasonic Group.

Therefore, Panasonic Information Systems Co., Ltd. utilized an external cloud and made it easy to conduct large-scale parallel calculations by using ADVENTUERCluster, which significantly lowered the barrier to use CAE.

The background, system overview, innovative points of building this condition were introduced.
